I have stepped up to 10k the MASSEY Way!
I have accepted the Massey Challenge because I want to see a world without cancer. VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is working to save lives and find cures right here in Virginia. To support their life-saving cancer research, I have accepted the Massey Challenge to fundraise and to give my miles meaning at the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k.
As many of you know, my mother Diane Bacon, has been battling cancer since I was in the 5th grade...To God Be The Glory she is still fighting today. In 2001 she was diagnosed with stage 4 Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, which began our relationship with the VCU Massey Cancer Center. I spent time volunteering in their library while my mom went through chemotherapy and can recall the amazing nurses and support staff that helped my sister, my father and me feel comfortable and at ease. She and the MCC team kicked that cancer's butt! In 2007, as my sister was heading off to college, my mother got another diagnosis...Kidney cancer. She had part of her kidney removed in 2009 and once again was in the clear! Most recently, in 2024 my mother was diagnosed a third time...as if we needed a charm! This time, Carcinogen linked to lymphoma was the culprit, but as always, the amazing doctors of VCU MCC did what they do best; they helped my mom win, and my father and I stood beside her proudly as she rang the bell!
By fundraising for Massey, my 10k will have special meaning and honor the 25 years of fighting my mother has endured against cancer.
Join me and be UNStoppable in the fight against all forms of cancer!
Will you make a donation towards my fundraising goal?
